Cherry season is short and sweet. California cherries peak at the end of May/beginning of June and the juicy Rainier cherries grown in Washington are at their best in July. The end of summer in Washington is full of cherry pies, cherry slumps, and cherry crumbles. The Pacific isn’t the only place to find fresh cherries, though. East coasters can pick their own cherries at a handful of farms scattered around the Hudson Valley. Cherry Ridge Farms in Hudson and LoveApple Farm in Ghent are two sweet choices.
